Baroque concert

Some friends of Chelsey's parents, Gerry and Donna, dropped in on Monday on their way to the Baltic Sea, so Chelsey showed them around Prague and then we took in a concert before going out to dinner. The concert was an organ performance, with some accompaniment by a violoncello, at St. Nicholas Church in Mala Strana. This is the baroque church we blogged about a few weeks back. It was a very good concert; the centrepiece was "Ave Maria", and Bach was the featured composer, although there were many pieces from contemporaries of Bach as well. The strange part about it, as Gerry noted, was that we never saw the performers. We sat in the church pews, and due to the layout of the church, we couldn't see the organist, because the organ was behind us and above us in the balcony. Presumably the violoncello player was also up there somewhere. We're used to watching the performer as they play, so just having music and no sight was a different experience. Sitting and staring at the ornate church while beautiful Baroque music washed over the sanctuary was quite a special and peaceful evening, though.
