do you fondue?

My family always eats fondue on Christmas Eve. This is a tradition that my parents started years ago, and it is something very special in our family. I can remember years where my brothers and I found the evening Christmas Eve church service interminable because we knew what a delicious dinner was waiting for us at home.
Soon after moving in, Jason and I found a fondue restaurant just around the corner from our flat. We decided that in honor of my family's tradition that we would visit it on Christmas. When we found out that Dusty and Missy were going to be here for Christmas, it made it seem like an even better idea, since they too are quite fond of this family tradition. We were very disappointed to find out that the restaurant was closed for the entire Christmas week, so we couldn't go with Dusty and Missy.
Jason and I finally went last week as something of a late birthday celebration. We were a little surprised when we got there and noticed we were about the only people in the place. They sat us way down in the basement (which was really cold, luckily they had some of those portable space heaters. They set one up right in front of me. We joked that it was almost like they knew me.)
We had a tough time deciding between cheese and meat fondue. My family does the meat kind, but we tried the cheese when we were in Switzerland with Jason's parents and really enjoyed it, too. In the end we decided on the "Vinohradske platter" which consisted of a sampling of chicken, beef and pork. We also picked a garlic sauce, a cheese and curry sauce, and a cranberry sauce. The cranberry had some horseradish in it (which isn't my favorite), but overall they were still all very good. In fact, the entire meal was delicious! What a treat.
We were still surprised when we finished and left the restaurant and the place was still empty. I guess it's still our little secret.
