Santa Barbara weekend
One of the nice things about being back in California is that I was able to go to the CMS alumni cross country event in Santa Barbara. It's a race along the beachfront there, 4.x miles long. This was, I think, my 10th time there. I've never really run a good race there as an alumni, but this year was all right. Certainly a long way from my undergraduate days, but not too bad nonetheless.
More importantly this year, it was a good chance to catch up with some friends. A lot of people showed up this year, and my friend Pat was gracious enough to let us stay at his beach house near the race site, which cut down on the exhausted driving time Saturday. A late-night bonfire on the beach in Oxnard even introduced us to some of Pat's neighbours and some random Navy people who just wandered over.
We're missing Prague a little bit right now, but this and Kim's wedding were reminders to me about why it's good to be back - hanging out with friends and family.
