Ducks hockey
Chelsey and I got tickets to three Ducks games from my parents for Christmas (plus a Ducks blanket to help keep Chelsey warm). Our first game was last week, against the Phoenix Coyotes. The seats are way up near the top of the arena, but I've never minded watching hockey from high seats - I think it actually gives you an interesting and somewhat informative view of the action.
Phoenix was actually a pretty interesting team to watch for us, since there are three players on the Coyotes' roster who we saw at the World Juniors last year in Pardubice in the Czech Republic. One of the three, Kyle Turris of Canada, I didn't see that night, so he might not have dressed, but we did see the other two. The first was Viktor Tikhonov, grandson of the legendary Soviet coach and outstanding forward at last year's tournament. The other was Mikael Boedker, who I remember as the one Danish player who looked good in their loss to the Czechs.
The Ducks ended up with a 2-0 win, so our two young Coyotes didn't generate too much offense, but neither looked overmatched. The Ducks' most impressive sequence was probably a penalty kill during which one of their players broke a stick, forcing Rob Niedermayer to try to play shorthanded without a stick for about a minute. Thanks to goalie Jonas Hiller, they escaped unscathed and went on to win.
Our next game is in about a month.
