Swan Lake

We returned to the world of classical music on Saturday when we went to see Swan Lake with two of our classmates, Robyn and Selina. It was at the National Theatre, and tickets turned out to be 30 crowns (roughly $1.50). I figured it was worth that price to see the building alone - from the outside it's a very impressive structure, sitting on the riverbank with a glittering gold top. The inside turned out to be worth at least a buck and a half. It reminded me of theatres they show in any program about the Elizabethan era - people seated on the floor, surrounding by ascending boxes on the side. In this case, there are four levels of boxes, making the upper levels quite a steep drop to the stage. We were at the very top, so we couldn't quite see the back of the stage, but that really didn't matter.
Ballet's not exactly my forte, so I can't really comment on the dancing, though there were some neat steps by some of the swans. The music was good though. I also went to a piano performance on Thursday night, by a very energetic and active pianist, so I'm getting my fill of the cultural opportunities here.

So, is there more culture in Prague than in Brawley? I know it's a close call.
