Super What?
With the exception of the other North American teachers at our school, the SuperBowl was completely off the radar here. The few students who I did ask about it had absolutely no idea what I was talking about. After I explained that it was the championship for American football -- because here football = soccer -- they told me that they didn't watch American football because it's "strange rugby." Fair enough. I think rugby is strange football.
The game wasn't on regular TV stations here, but there were a few pubs with satellite that were showing it. However Jason and I chose not to go watch, since the game would have started around 1 a.m. So for this year we had to survive with just watching the highlights on the internet.
We were also able to watch many of the commercials on the internet. We found a site that showed them in order of how popular they were (but I'm not sure how those rankings were determined). We didn't agree with the order. In fact, our favorite commercial was ranked very low (I think it was in the late 20s or early 30s). It was the one with Dwyane Wade and Charles Barkley. We thought it was clever and if you'd been in our apartment this week you would have heard more than one "Yeah, Chuck."
