Salvador Dali exhibit

There was a Salvador Dali exhibit in Old Town Square that I've been wanting to go to and since our opera plans didn't work out Saturday night (maybe next week), we decided to go see it. The exhibit isn't too big, but it has a nice collection of some of his paintings, sketches and sculpture. There are also several portrait photographs of him.
He really was an eccentric fellow. In most of the portraits he has his handlebar mustache curled and in several he's wearing a purple sequin jacket. Jason and I decided that these pictures don't look like a real snapshot of him, but instead it looks like he was trying to ham it up for the camera.
His sketches and paintings showed a variety of styles, though there were several that were nearly very similar. Jason and I laughed that they were essentially the same thing. There were a series of knights "Christian Knight" (holding a cross), "Victorious Knight" (holding a weapon), and a "Roman Knight" (this was just a smaller image of the Victorious Knight.") There were spread out through different rooms, almost like the museum was hoping people wouldn't notice/remember that they'd already seen that.
My favorite items of his work are his surreal paintings. They had one of his melting clock pictures, which I really like. They didn't have some of his more famous paintings (like the one with the little girl and the ocean coming into her room).
But, they did have a painting of his that I'd never seen before. I included two pictures of it here (they're not my pictures because you weren't allowed to take any inside the museum). The first picture is what it looks like when you stand right in front of the painting. It's a woman standing in front of a window and looking out at the sea. Somehow, Jason and I both missed the sign with the information when we first walked by the picture. Later, though, we had to walk through the room and I mentioned to Jason that the picture almost looked to me like one of those photo mosaics where you can see another, larger picture when you stand back. I said it reminded me of a portrait. Jason agreed, and I said it could almost be Abraham Lincoln. So, then we went and found the sign, and the picture is even called something like "Woman Looking at the Sea, but Portrait of Abraham Lincoln from a distance of 20m." The picture was hung right in front of a doorway, so we went into the next room and looked back and sure enough there was Abe. It was really interesting. So, the second picture is what the painting looks like when you view it from far away.
