Learning the ropes

We are starting to figure out how things work. We've become pretty adept at buying groceries, and it's been at least a week since we made a faux pas at the store.
Jason hasn't been feeling well lately. He had a bit of a cold and he has been really congested. The major food stores and the Wal-Mart equivalent don't sell any medicine, even over-the-counter stuff. So we had to find a special pharmacy. The woman behind the counter didn't speak any English, so we pulled out our Czech dictionary and pointed to the Czech word for "congested." She went "ahh" and pointed at her nose, so we were impressed that we were actually able to convey what we needed. We then pointed to the Czech word for "pill" but she indicated that they didn't have any. She pulled out several boxes with what appeared to be sprays and we picked one -- it turns out it's nose drops. We were a little suspicious, but Jason said that it worked. These are the kind of small encounters that we are finally starting to figure out.
Jason had his last teaching practice today. He said that it went well, and he passed all of the lessons -- so he is in a very good position to pass the course. I have one more teaching practice tomorrow, but it is a listening lesson (which is typically very easy), so I'm not really worried. My lesson on Tuesday was grammar and I was just happy to have passed that one. So we finish the class up on Friday and then we have a week off!
We plan to use that week to find and apartment and do some sight-seeing, maybe we'll even take a day trip to another Czech town.
